How do I know when it is time to re-roof my home/building?
It is usually time to re-roof your home when your shingles are brittle, puffy, cracking, the corners are curled up and you have rusty valleys. If these signs are present you need to contact KC Roof Care for a full roof evaluation.
How will I know if I have a problem on a flat roof?
Obvious indications of flat roof problems are cracking of surface, blistering, gravel guard and roof separation at the connecting joints. It is wise to have the roof inspected by a licensed roofing specialist twice per year. Typically after the winter and summer seasons.
Will I be able to identify roof sheeting problems?
Yes. Sheeting should be repaired when there is recognizable sagging or sinking.
Are you insured?
Yes we carry $1,000,000 in general liability coverage as well as workers compensation for our employees. Binders available upon request.
Are your men legal and do they speak English?
All of our roofing technicians are highly trained and have many years experience in the roofing industry. We do not just pull manpower from a replacement crew that has no clue of how to properly repair a roof. All of our roof techs are US citizens and all speak English. They are trained in the art of roof repair and leak finding.
My roof has ugly black streaks on it, what is causing it?
Most roof stains are caused by the growth of algae, lichen colonies or moss that feed on organic matter frequently found on roof surfaces. The portions of a roof that receive the least amount of sunlight are more likely to have roof stains. This explains why some roofs may have roof stains only on one side of the roof, typically the northern and/or western exposure or in heavily shaded areas.
I have three buildings, Tar and Gravel, Modified Bitumen, and a Metal Roof. Do you have the ability to repair leaks on all three types?
Absolutely, different repair systems but with the same idea behind each system. We have developed a system that is second to no other. Our roof techs are trained and experienced in all roof types and how to properly repair each type.
I have tried everything to stop my leak. How do you know you can fix the leak when others have failed?
I am asked this question more often than any other. Without giving away any secrets, there are only a few places a roof typically fails and I have seen these same places thousands of times. We are experts in finding roofing leaks and failures that are mystery for a lot of other people. Also, the choice in repair products makes a big difference. We have over a 90% success rate in finding and repairing roof leaks and most leaks are repaired on the first call.
The roof has been leaking for a long time; did the water damage anything else inside the roof?
The answer to that is almost always YES, let’s fix your leak first. Then I will help you investigate the hidden damages caused by the roof leak. I have seen completely rotted structures because of a leak down to a little wet insulation and a spot on the sheetrock. The hidden damages could be drastically varying in price, but again, let’s fix your leak before things get out of control. This stops the spread of the interior damage ASAP.
Can you work with my insurance and make them pay for some of the damage?
This is kind of a tricky question. Yes, I will work with your insurance and No, I will not argue with them to pay for it. Contrary to what a lot of roofers will tell you, your insurance adjuster is the one who determines your loss and what will be paid for. These folks follow processes that help them make these determinations and in most cases are very fair. No roofer can twist their arm or force them to pay for a loss. We can present facts and certainly work with your adjuster, but be very careful of anyone who tells you that they can get your job paid for by insurance. This whole idea is what gives roofers a bad stereotype with customers and insurance representatives.
What forms of payment do you take?
We take credit cards, personal and business checks, money orders, cashiers checks, and of course we still take cash.
Do I need to be present for you to work on the roof?
No, as much as we would love to meet you, we realize most business owners are busy during the daylight hours and we can generally perform your roof work in your absence. On occasion we will need to gain access to the inside of the home/building to see the leak location from the inside and potentially access to the attic if present.
Should I Repair Or Replace My Roof?
Roof Repair vs. Roof Replacement
Repairing your roof is almost always a better option than installing a new roof. In most cases, your roof will last many years after the first leak is detected. Once KC ROOF CARE has repaired the leak, you'll have time to plan and save for a new roof. We take great care to avoid placing you in a "must-do-it-now" situation.
Why would I want attic ventilation in the winter?
Ventilation is important year round. In the summer months heat from the sun can raise attic temperatures up to 150° or more. This overwhelms the insulation on the attic floor and causes your home to heat up.
Ventilation in the winter is very important for two reasons:
In the winter months the cold air from outside cools your attic space. Heat and moisture generated in the fall, and winter months is carried by rising heat into the attic space. When warm air meets cool air in the attic moisture is created. Moisture is a conductor, and insulation is an insulator. If moisture infiltrates insulation, the insulator becomes a conductor thus compounding the problem of heat loss because now the insulation is not doing its job to hold heat in the home.
That same warm air that meets the cold air in the attic causes condensation to form in the attic and water droplets form in the attic. The ventilation is very important to remove this condensation. If left unvented the condensation will ruin your insulation and cause wood rot and mold and mildew to form in the attic system.
This is why ventilation is important all year long. It is doing its job when it is removing hot air in the summer and moist air in the winter.

Is it Time For a New Roof?
At some time or another, we’ve all wondered when that day will come when we need a new roof. But do you really need a new roof? All too often, most roofers will tell you “yes” without hesitation because they sell new roofs. But how can you be sure? After all, a simple repair may keep you and your building contents dry for years to come. Who knows, your roof may be in good enough shape to keep you safe and sound with no need for any repair. The only way to find out for sure is to let the experts at KC ROOF CARE grade your buildings roof and help you decide what is best for you and your budget.
The roof of your building can undergo serious damage, weathering, disintegration, or roof failure at any point throughout its lifetime. These things may be prevented or even taken care of with roof repair and roof maintenance. Sometimes, however, repair will not be enough and you will need a new roof entirely.
Here we will outline exactly in what conditions you should choose between roof repair and installing a new roof.
Failure - the first signs of roof failure appear in the buildings interior - flaking paint, ceiling stains, discoloration, and peeling wall-paper are all clear signs. Causes like small holes can be patched up, while cracks in shingles cannot be. Whatever the cause, never wait to hire a roofing professional to determine how much the repair and treatment costs will be, and how long your roof will live once complete. If it does not exceed the cost of a new roof, and will survive at least its original life cycle, then repair. If not, install a new roof.
Materials - every kind of roofing material requires different levels of maintenance and care. All roof systems require annual and semi-annual inspections and treatment. In fact all manufacturer’s warranties require routine roof maintenance and periodic inspections to keep the warranty valid. Knowing about the material covering your roof will help you in deciding whether or not it is worth repairing or replacing it, and give you an idea of your expected new roof cost versus repair, and new roof costs versus maintenance of existing.
Age - most of your decision is based on the age of your existing roof, which should be checked twice a year in all cases. If a roof is 20+ years old, install a new roof. If it is under 10-15 yrs old, you may want to try to repair it.
The main idea here is that you invest in your roof. Don't repair it if the life cycle is ending, or of it exceeds the new roof cost. Install a new roof when repairs are insufficient, and when it is financially more worthwhile.
When Is Roof Repair Required?
Roof repair / maintenance is generally required under the following circumstances:
After extreme weather conditions (High wind, heavy rain, hail, ice, snow, etc.)
General long-term exposure to weather
Lack of Maintenance
Weak or improper roofing design.
